Ok…so I have seen the mug and I am inspired to finish.  Completed the survey and everything.

Now for my wild card blog. I did this a while ago and was too lazy to post. Sorry!

I chose to look at LiveMocha as a possible supplement to our language database.  It is a 2.0 language learning site.  It allows users to connect with other language learners and practice.  The site offers lessons and you can be matched with people based on their skill level. It can be a very powerful tool for people who can learn language in this format.  It is not necessarily something that will be good for the library in general but it is a nice resource to share.

I love searching you tube.  My guilty pleasure is searching for old music videos.  The secret is out!

I am not a podcast listener. I just can not multitask while listening to a story or commentary.  For those who can, it is a wonderful tool and I am in complete support of it.

CCLIB is already using podcasting  and youtube for programing and services. Currently staff are recording and posting children stories. A couple of months ago, Virtural Library hosted a library video contest on youtube.  It was a very creative event.  The options are endless.

I have a myspace, facebook and now Ning account.  I find them very entertaining but also overwhelming.

The pros and cons of social networking according to Deanna

  • PRO- you can find long lost people
  • CON - people can find you
  • PRO – keeps people in touch with a short note
  • CON – you never really get the fill of a normal conversation
  • PRO – sending fun thoughs and stuff
  • CON – too much “stuff” being sent
  • PRO – Letting friends know what is going on in your life that moment
  • CON- Letting EVERYONE know what is going on in your life that moment

It is a constant balance between being an extrovert and introvert and having the time to update your page:)

I understand that some will find RSS feeds to be very helpful but I doubt I will become a subscriber.   My day-to-day duties do not demand I need up to minute information on any one particular subject.  I jump around too much to have a constant feed of any one thing.  I am open to using such a tool if need arises.

I have used similar IM tools in the past.   During my library internship at the University of San Francisco, we set up an IM reference for students.  Students were able to add the USF REF to their buddy list and access us at any time.  In theory it is a great idea but in practice it is much more difficult to maintain.   I would like to explore it more in terms of library service, whether it is just for staff or public use.

This is good to know.  I don’t know how many times I have had kids come in needing MS office to print. Very simple to set up.  Cool

I have heard so much about Del.icio.us prior to this exercise.  I can see how it would be helpful for reference if you are moving from computer to computer but I am not fully sold on the idea of using it.

Ha! Another one down!  At this rate I will have a definitely have a coveted mug for staff day!

Flickr is pretty easy to manage.  It is a fun tool.

This post is for Cathrine. http://www.flickr.com/photos/25678737@N04/2846221601/

OK…so I FINALLY posted a review.  How is it that I am a librarian yet I have the hardest time writing a simple little review for my peers. Oh the pressure! Although, I do have to say that I enjoy learning about what others are reading.

I don’t know what to write…
